Gainst the winter white.

Bleeds the hope

Of colors soon -

That splash of Spring's birthright.

Notre Dame
De La Salette,
Hovers in fields
O'er Olivet.

Three hours north,
Chicago windy,
Two hours east,
The city of Indy.

Three hours west,
St. Louis, MO,
Three hours east,
O - hi - o!

Three hours south,
Louisville, Kentuck,
Maybe two,
If you get some luck!

At Notre Dame,
De La Salette,
Gathering clouds
O'er Olivet,

Will rain down truth,
With force not met,
On midwest plains,
New Irish threat.

Not by doctorates,
Alumni checks,
Not by sports,
New dorm complex,

But by a sword
Striking asunder
On fallow fields,
These sons of thunder!

My ear has just heard
The sad heavy word,
An actor has just
Left the stage.

He played his part
With all his heart,
And the audience he did
Engage.

Virile projection,
No time for dejection,
Irish wolf howling
Proud ‘gainst the moon.

For his soul was lit bright,
Reflecting God’s light,
In all Catholic truths
And her rune.

The theatre’s dark,
There’s no one to hark,
‘Fore opening night
Through the ages.

So in Charity rehearse,
For his soul, a prayer verse,
‘Till the Irish wolf performs on…

...Heaven’s stages!
