A Little Franciscan

“Religious orders are not formed for the purpose of gathering together perfect people, but those who have the courage to aim at perfection.” (St. Francis de Sales)

MY
LITTLE
FRANCISCAN

My little Franciscan
Of Christ the King
Come to the stable
Give everything.

My little Franciscan
Of Christ the King
At the foot of His cross
Pray and cling.

My little Franciscan
Of Christ the King
He’s daily at Mass
With the golden bell’s ring.

His Birth
His Death
His Life
You bring

My little Franciscan
Of Christ
The
King!

Sr. Mary Bernard of the Annunciation’s

THE OFFICE

I SAY A
LITTLE
PRAYER
FOR YOU

I said a little
Prayer for you,
Today, at morning
Matins.

At breakfast said
An Ave too,
While eating food
That fattens.

At Lauds I prayed
To give you strength,
And then I had
A snack.

I'd pray for you
At any length
While ordering a
Big-Mac!

The sun is high,
It's 12-noon time,
For you the
Angels' Psalter.

I pray at Prime,
Though it's lunch time,
That God won't
Let you falter.

Again at three,
It's time for Terce,
Some food I'll need
Till Sext.

My clothes are tight
Oh, what is worse?
To dwell on
Diet text.

So down my supper,
On to None,
Dry mouth from prayer,
I thirst.

I drink a lot,
The Vespers done,
My tummy's 'bout
To burst!

But still for you,
At Compline sat,
I prayed,
More food I ate.

This praying, Father,
Makes me fat...
Now you pray
I lose weight!!!

BYE, BYE, FRANCISCANS F of I

AND
I
WAS
SINGIN’…

So bye, bye,
Oh, Franciscans
F of I -

Don’t drive
Your Chevy
To the levee

Or join
Up with that
St. Pie,

They’re good
Ole’ boys
Who like

Their
Masses all
Sung High -

And all
Orders
Of Tradition

Have
To
Die

Yes, cuz d*m it
We can’t stop
Priests of St. Pie!

BOLD
ARE
THE
BLUFFS

“The heavens show forth the glory of God: and the firmament declareth the works of His hands.” (Psalm 18)

Bold are the bluffs
Of the Mississippi
Bold is the rock
That stands in place.

He who prepared them
Upon the river
A generation
Before His Face.

In the winter
Ripped and ruined,
In the winter
Bleak and bare,

Then comes June
The leaves, all grew in,
Then comes June
Green in prayer.

Tabernacle sun
In the sky
Clouds cast shadows
Rushing by

Ascending bluffs
Gorged in green
Fifty-thousand
Shades are seen.

Bold are the bluffs
Of the Mississippi
Bold are the hands
That anoint in grace

Bold are the bluffs,
These men of Christ,
Mississippi men
The River, embrace!

Power of the CASSOCK!!

THE
BLACK
SAILS

The power of the cassock
Is to lure
Like fishermen
To nets secure.

The power of the cassock
Ebony shine
A hull of hues
On deck Divine.

The power of the cassock
Anchors the man
Dead to the world
In his sea-span.

The power of the cassock
Weighted strength
Before the mast
It's linen length.

The power of the cassock
Sails your soul
To greater depths
From shallow shoal.

The power of the cassock
Captains' pure
The fishermen
Our land-locked cure.

Oh, how tragic is the Faith of most American Catholics today - but being of Irish descent "I have an abiding sense of tragedy, which sustains me through temporary periods of joy" such as these moments as W. B. Yeats might say.
