SCRUPLE’S
PUPILS
Full of fret,
But you can bet,
Their superego’s firm.
Full of compunction,
At every function,
Won’t eat ‘cause they might catch a germ.
When reading the psalms,
They often have qualms,
For David, he sinned and adultered.
They quiver and waver
And question God’s favor -
Forgetting he ’fessed that he faltered.
They act shocked and shy,
See motes in your eye,
And painstakingly gag, for they’re rigorous.
But since they are strict,
That mote will get picked,
Along with your eye ‘cause they’re vigorous!
Others’ talent they censor,
As they grow tense and tenser,
Afraid that they might take a tumble –
Reluctant to smile,
Laugh with joy for a while…
But, oh, they’re so proud to be humble!!
